Walnuts
Schmidt Farm raises English Walnuts also known as “franqette.” English walnut trees can live up to 150 years and grow more than 50 feet tall. During the early 1800’s walnuts were taken from England to North America. This gave rise to the name ‘English Walnut’.
Our walnut orchard was planted by my grandfather, “Eugene Schmidt.” When the walnut trees started producing nuts he and my grandmother, “Irene Schmidt,” began selling the walnuts from the farm-house garage. What we now refer to as, “road side nut sales.” After 41 years of operation I now have the opportunity to continue offering nutrient-rich walnuts to Schmidt Farm Customers.
For those who have been waiting. Hazelnuts are back this year. More information to come.
